We are currently seeking an experienced and self-motivated Fuel Engineer (Economy & Performance Engineer) for a contract role within Ford’s Product Development team based in Melbourne.

In this role you will be you will be part of a team that is responsible for the development of work plans and completion of gateway deliverables to program costs and timing.

Key Responsibilities:
·To manage the design and development of Fuel Economy technologies to meet both customer and regulatory requirements
·Simulate and analyse the implication of vehicle/engine/driveline specification changes on FE, Performance (acceleration, gradeability & max speed) and emissions.
·Publish FE & performance simulation reports and participate in reviews with Vehicle/Engine/Transmission teams and Product Planning in target setting for FE, performance feel & drivability.
·Conduct detailed benchmarking of competitor vehicles concerning FE & performance.
·Evaluate prototype at each stage of vehicle development and analyse the causes for deviations between predicted performance and tested performance.
·Study and evaluate CO2 reduction technologies for possible implementation in FORD portfolio.
·Evaluate and implement new methods of powertrain simulation & analysis as part of capability building.
·Conceptualised, and produced vehicle models to study the futuring of competitive vehicles.
·Coordinate Vehicle Testing and Analysis.
·Coordinate Competitive Vehicle Assessments and Benchmarking (FE, Coastdown, Drive Quality, Special Tests).
·Coordinate FORD Vehicle Energy Related Special Tests.
·Analyse findings and implement learnings into the tools/templates/processes to ensure application of key learnings.
·Support the Global Energy Community as needed.
·Present findings to Energy/leadership team as needed.
·Good knowledge of data analysis fundamentals.
·Good vehicle driving and evaluation skills.

Required Skills & Knowledge:
·Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related field will be highly regarded
·Ability to learn new CAE tools and modelling techniques
·Fuel Economy and Performance modelling
·Previous experience in Fuel Economy and Performance modelling is preferred
·Sound knowledge of automotive powertrain and vehicle dynamics fundamentals.
·Expertise in using in-house/proprietary developed vehicle performance and fuel-economy simulation software
·In-depth understanding of vehicle performance (acceleration, coast down test) evaluation and exhaust emission testing procedures and standards. Hands-on experience of chassis dynamometer testing
·Sound knowledge of Matlab/Simulink
·Exposure to emission development/driveability calibration/powertrain controls
·Knowledge of hyrbid and electrical vehicle technology
